MORE than 50 firefighters, including some from Littleborough, battled a huge blaze on the Pennine moors.
They were called to the moors near Ripponden just after 6.30am on Monday morning and were still tackling the flames 10 hours later.
The crews battled to stop the blaze, which stretched over a 2km area, using hoses and beaters.
They even began trying to build fire a break in a bid to stop the flames from spreading further.
Firefighters from Littleborough were among those called in to support colleagues from West Yorkshire.
The blaze was near to Baitings Reservoir, off the A58 Rochdale Road and not far from Blackstone Edge.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At present we have a 10-pump moorland fire near to Baitings Reservoir off Rochdale Road at Ripponden.
