AN AMERICAN couple have enlisted the Observer’s help to reunite a little boy with his Christmas presents.

The gifts arrived at their home in Texas but despite extensive inquiries to find ‘Ben’ – the child the gifts were addressed to – David Cole and his wife have drawn a blank.

But there are clues which indicates they may have been sent from Rochdale.

Mr Cole said: "There is a set of little boy’s pyjamas from Marks & Spencer, which we have discovered is an English department store with a location in Rochdale.

"There is also a ‘hug card’ with a sticker saying it was hand-made at Springhill Day Hospice."

The couple were amazed to discover the package had most likely travelled all the way from England.

Mr Cole said: "There was also a beautiful little hand-knitted sweater – my wife almost cried when she saw it.

"The last present was a blanket with a note attached. It says: ‘This is a present that Grandma has sent especially for you. This car was on your Daddy’s bed when he was a little boy just like you. It is for your bed now, love Grandma’.

"At this point my wife was almost in tears with worry about how we could reunite Ben with his Christmas presents."

Mr Cole emailed Springhill Hospice in the hope that ‘grandma’ might be an employee, volunteer or patient, but has had no luck so far finding her.

The couple are now appealing for the Observer’s help, in the hope that someone can come up with the answer – and make a little boy and his grandmother happy.
