Long-serving teacher Reginald Wild has died aged 96. Mr Wild, who was born in Wuerdle, near Smithy Bridge, was headteacher at St Gabriel’s CE Primary in Middleton Junction for 21 years.

In a long and distinguished career he also taught at Norden School, which in those days was an elementary school for junior and secondary pupils.
