FROM his early teenage years of bleached blonde hair and hardcore mosh pits Sean Holland has always been supporting new music.

Snapping up tickets for Green Day during their Dookie phase at the M.E.N arena, Sean‘s passion for live music was given all American punk edge kick-start.

Since then Sean, 23 has ventured deep into the realms of the music behind the glittering million dollar manufactured record labels to unearth the UK’s raw talent.

And now he has offered his services to supporting Manchester’s newest independent station Manchester Radio Online.

The station was set up a year and half years ago by David Foran and entrepreneur from the pub and club scene who wanted to create an alternative to mainstream radio.

Supported by a team of passionate festival-following volunteers and underground Manchester music moguls Manchester Radio Online‘s internet based outlet gives the station the advantage of broadcasting material that is experimental, challenging and original.

And while New Zealander Zane Lowe may have initially created his name moving from hip hop origins to alternative-indie and Clint Boon has had his wings clipped during the XFM overhaul, born and bred in the Dale former St Cuthbert’s pupil Sean is staying true to his roots and flying the flag for unsigned bands.

After various stints as the lead singer of over a dozen bands Sean admits that he’ll never be the next Liam Gallagher, Ian Brown or even Shaun Ryder, but he does have a eye for spotting bands destined for major award nominations and international recognition.

Venturing into ‘bunny boiler’ territory with his love for Glasvegas, Sean followed the band from Manchester to London and back again and always knew the where destined to break through.

Sean said: “I just though Glasvegas had something different from anything else around at the time, they were unique.”

And now after working in the music scene for the past four years from managing No*Tokyo and Shakey Jakes, to promoting The Aftershow at MoHo and DJ sets at Tiger Tiger, Club Nirvana in Wigan and Jabez Clegg on home soil - Sean is set to give unsigned bands the chance to get their sound heard across the airwaves, boost their reputations and hopefully bag them a few new fans in the process.

Sean’s new slot hits the air every Tuesday from seven till nine, with the first hour completely dedicated to local bands and musicians.

Each week guest musicians will be invited into the studio to introduce their tracks, whether this is just a rough demo or mastered material, play acoustic tunes, pick their favourite songs from their biggest influences and give their take on the local music scene.

And there is even the chance of a free beer from the pub next door.

Sean said: “I just love hearing new music and it’s a good opportunity to promote bands and get them an acoustic recording.  I’m just looking for bands with talent that have got something different to offer. I want to hear from as many bands as possible.

“I’m a regular gig goer and I really like seeing bands that I’ve never seen before.

“I don‘t think unsigned bands get enough airplay and this would be a good platform for them to start from.”
