OLD skool influenced rockers Joon have secured the top slot in the Rock Radio Manchester's Future Classics chart.

Their track 'Man on the Run' was picked by listeners as the featured song of the week after the band went head to head online with rivals P.L.O.T.

Listeners voted online in their thousands from all across the world securing 63% of the votes to push Joon to victory. The band were then interviewed on Ricky Kirby's radio show were their track was premiered live on air.

Lead singer Olly Kraweckyj said: "It was fantastic to win the competition, it's hard for a band like us to get radio play easily because were not in trend at the moment so it's a step forward.

"We've also been getting lots of interest from radio stations in Americaso it's really starting to kick off.

"P.L.O.T are bit heavier than us, which I thought would be in their favour and they're good at what they do so I thought we'd have a tough battle."

"Americans in general seem to like our sound because it's anthemic rock and they've taken to it really well."

Not only has Joon's sound been picked up in Texas by Blog Talk Radio, but listeners in Salt Lake City will be waking up to their sound on Magic 99.

The band have also been booked to play at a convention in October for their heroes Journey who have been their major influence for their music.

Olly added: "Journey have been a very big influence for us and a lot of their fans come to our gigs. They're starting to develop quite a big fan base over here with their tracks used on TV shows like Family Guy and The Sopranos people are starting to take note."

But if you can't wait till October to check out Joon, the band can be caught rocking the stage at Hard Rock Cafe in Manchester each and every Friday night.
