BYE Bye Johnny wowed crowds at this year’s V festival stamping their names on the bill alongside music giants, Muse, the Prodigy and Ian Brown.

The Rochdale punks were booked to play the Strongbow Stage on Sunday afternoon pulling out all the stops and winning over the capacity crowd with their punk playlist, even managing to put their own twist on reggae favourite ‘Looking In Your Big Brown Eyes’ originally released by the legendary Bob Marley.

Travelling down to Stafford with their hardcore fans base of over 150 followers the band turned down the chance to stay backstage with indie kings, preferring to set up camp with their friends in the muddy fields.

Highlighting their top V festival performances as The Kings of Leon, The Rifles, The Stranglers and The Pogues; Bye Bye Johnny certainly stamped their own mark on the summer party packing out the Strongbow tent and spreading their Rochdale sound across the UK.

Guitarist Dean Hulse said: “The gig was brilliant. It was completely full and we got a really good reaction, it was as good as it could’ve been. We handed out lots of cards and we got a lot of new people there.

“The first day was boiling, but by Sunday it was as muddy as you can imagine, there was sludge everywhere and play was delayed for an hour while they cleared water out of the tent.

“We didn’t really bother going backstage because we had to keep the noise down and we wanted to be up and out so we stayed with our mates and made lots of noise.”

Bass player Russ Davis added: “It was amazing, it went even better than we thought, the equipment was brilliant we played well and the crowd was buzzing.

“I think we’ve definitely made a few more fans.”

Future plans for the band Bye Bye Johnny include taking their sound on tour and releasing their debut single ‘Take Cover with Me’ in October.
