JUDGES made a controversial decision to name Blood Sunset as Back Music Project’s Battle of the Band winners.
The out-of-towners strode on to the stage on Friday amidst cheers and applause and appeared to be the favourites to win before they’d even plugged in their guitars.
The lead singer’s cheeky, cocky charm and enthusiasm whipped the crowd into action, with the band veering from indie tunes to heavy metal, showing that they could give rivals Fight Another Day a run for their money.
Although the band’s performance was by no means flawless they definitely had a special spark that raised them to the top in the title fight.
But the flippant crowd soon changed their favour as the other contenders took their places to entertain.
The House Cats were as sleek as they had been when they prowled their way to victory in the third round, but although technically brilliant they failed to stamp the presence on the stage and involve the audience.
Fight Another Day split the judges vote in their first round win, with the bands duo of lead singers going head to head over heavy metal guitar riffs and thrashing drums.
But surprisingly their appearance in the final heat with the absence of a lead singer seemed to do the band a favour.
The heavy metal rockers had obviously stepped up their game and despite finishing in the runners-up position Fight Another Day had made drastic improvements since the first round.
Tin Griffin strolled on to stage with their usual air of arrogance, repeating eighties rock for a younger audience the band seemed to win over the crowd.
With their comedy-value keyboard player even managing to lure his own personal groupie on to stage.
However, Tin Griffin didn’t manage to wow the judges quite as well, scoring enough points to secure second place, but failing to excite enough to swipe the top spot.
With rivalries soaring and opposing chants from the crowd the announcement of Blood Sunset as winners was met with some hostility.
While Blood Sunset humbly accepted their award, rival bands failed to remain gracious in defeat.
However, the judges’ decision is final and the six-piece from Bury will now be given the chance to fine tune their raw talent by recording tracks and video under the guidance of the Back Door Music project.
