Rochdale Expats - try our map!

ARE you a former resident of Rochdale who has moved abroad and who wants to get back in touch with people still living in the town? Do you know of friends or family who have moved overseas and you want to try and track them down? Well here's your chance with our new interactive map ...

In this section, we're giving an opportunity for people who were parted when locals decided to make new lives overseas to make contact once again.

If you are an ex-pat, who wants to know the whereabouts of a pal or relative, send us the details and we'll post them up here. The same is true of locals - let us know if you want to get back in touch with a local who has left these shores. You never know - they might just visit this site, read your message and you could be reunited.

Alternatively, ex-pats can write to us simply if they want to let the folks back home know what they've been up to, how life overseas is treating them, and what they miss about Rochdale.

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is to click here to go to our interactive map of the world , then click on the part of the map where you live. Your own pinpoint will appear which you can move to the exact location you want (use the controls on the top-right of the map to move around and to zoom in and out, right down to street level).

A form will also appear which will allow you to give your name, contact details, reason for moving and anything else you want to share with us.

Please note - this information will appear live on the site immediately and is not moderated. If you feel that somebody is abusing this map service, please click here to e-mail the web editor.

NOTE: All entries received so far, which can bee seen by clicking on 'View comments' have been added to the interactive map - from now on we'd like all new entries to be added via this map and not by clicking on 'Submit comments'. Thank you.

Left Wardle in 1985 and moved to Auckland, NZ where I lived and worked for 13 years before moving to Brisbane. Although my family all still live in the Rochdale/Manchester area and I keep in touch with them It would be interesting to hear from anybody else I knew while I grew up there. I was born in Rochdale in 1948, my parents were Jim and Heather Hampson. We lived in Kirkholt. My aunt and uncle were Jack and Annie Rothwell, who had a pub in Rochdale for many years. We came to the USA in 1957. I still read all I can about England and follow the Rochdale news when I can.

I moved to the U.S. from the Rochdale environs in 1962 and have sorely missed it even though I manage to visit quite often. For most of my life there I lived in Newhey, then Rochdale, then Manchester. I'd like to locate Harry Wild, a jazz enthusiast and a butcher in those days whose parents kept a pub and a grocery store in Rochdale. If you know how I can contact Harry, or indeed are Harry, please let me know. E-mail: pkunder@carolina.rr.com

I am looking for my younger brother. Thomas Austen, married to Sue Lynch and their last adress was 62 Sedgley Av. Rochdale. Tel 01706346877
For a, to me unknown reason, I canB4t track them down no more, which is a pity for as a executioner of our late parents will, their is a remarkable amount of money due to them. Thomas and Sue have two children, Sarah and Tineke, and I know that this part of our late parents inheritance could be very welcome to this young family.
I have tried various ways to track them down, even up to their local pub "The Citizen" in Rochedale. But this pub had already changend owners a few times and the last owner known to me, Tony Macdonald has been unable to find too.

Thank you for reading this, and hopefully you can be helpfull in my quest for my youngest brother.

Many Regards,
Andrew Austen.
