One piece of military history that fascinates me. My old neighbour told me that the Home Guard were a regular fixture along Stockport Road in Longsight and Leve during WW2. She said there was an air raid siren fixed to the top of the old Leve town hall and this was a rally point for the Home Guard. I try and imagine the A6 back then, siren going off, people moving to air raid shelters and the Home Guard scrambling around. Long gone but never forgotten.
