United have never been able to compete for the out and out superstars of the game Kevin. The nearest we have got to that is Veron! However this has not stopped us competing at the top level for nigh on 20 yrs. Prudent financial management is a good thing I think, especially with ffp coming in. Ok, I know I've left myself open to the debt issue with this comment, and of course servicing that is a bit of a handicap. However I'd rather united stick to a budget than chase players who are over-priced. Don't get me wrong, if the right player comes along then I'm all for strengthening the squad, but if you can't compete with the transfer fee, agents fee, and wages being offered by the sugar-daddy clubs (and let's be honest, even if united were completely debt free they still wouldn't be in a position to compete with the cfc, city, psg type clubs) then what do you do?
