What "Pride" reveals in the money-grubbing nature of the organisations behind the event, largely the bar-owners.The LGF features little other than its usual mammoth HIV campaigns highlighting to the general public the public health danger of the gay population of Manchester but then that is what brings in the cash to this self-serving organisation form naive local NHS Trusts.
The whole gay structure in Manchester is self-serving - how many gay people does the LGF for instance actually contact from within the Greater Manchester area - the answer is very, very few indeed.Where is the LGF in Oldham,Bury,Trafford,Tameside or Wigan? Do they ever go to these towns? - No! If you want the LGF you have to go into Manchester.
So one asks the question what does it do with the £2,000,000 it receives asa charity apart from renting plush premises in an expensive part of Manchester's centre, funding to a small extent a few outside groups - mostly lesbian - and paying high salaries to staff and expenses to "volunteers".
The George House trust and the Albert Kennedy trust do much better work with far less.
I shall not be buying a Pride ticket in 2013 - I can watch the parade for free and then go and have a nice coffe in a nearby coffee house and avoid the Canal Street drunks with the plastic beer mugs.
