We lost. However, we can put the word PRIDE back into our performance!
A thoroughly workmanlike first half almost had us going in at half time with a deserved one-goal lead. That terrific header from Powell had goal written all over it, but the crossbar came to the rescue of the well-beaten keeper.
I was more than pleased with our overhaul performance, and I eagerly looked forwards to the next 45 minutes.
As per usual, we fell behind, as Lindegaard was somewhat let down by his defence for their goal. I thought that our response was first class as we picked ourselves up, and determinedly went for an equaliser.
It was not to be though, but I was proud of our lads as they continued to push forwards whilst working their socks off.
Young Powell gave an excellent European debut and, along with all our midfielders, worked tirelessly to win the ball back when the opposition were in possession of it. That is one important aspect that our usual “over-age” players fail to do because of their lack of pace and stamina!
The majority of that team, with the addition of RVP, Rooney, Smalling and a couple or more of our “UNDER 35s” players should make a decent enough squad for Saturday’s game? Over to you, Sir Alex?
United ‘til I die!
