Government figures from roughly 6 years ago showed that increased capacity for regional airports drained money OUT of the UK economy with the one exception of Heathrow where the excess of tourists coming in, had a slightly positive effect on London. Airports need to have their total carbon footprints frozen and then over time reduced, so that the only way they can add traffic or capacity is through more efficient technology not expansion.
