Like every City fan, I am excited, beyond belief, about tomorrow’s match. We have waited a long time to be a central part of the whole Champions league scenario and I think we have a great chance of making progress into the knockout stages even though we have been drawn to play such exalted opponents
But maybe it’s because I have been an avid fan of City since 1953, as a ten year old, and remember the “we will terrorise Europe” gaffs of Big Malc etc that I continually remind myself that we are still very much Work in Progress and that the development plans for the club, the appointment of an CEO with a record of doubling a club’s turnover and the wealth and long term commitment of our owners means that our real influence on the European scene is still probably going to be a few years away.
I have gone on a strict diet (no more balti pies at City) and healthy eating regime because I want to live for at least another twenty years - into my nineties - so that after decades of disappointment I can have at least twenty years watching Allison’s predictions come true.
