This is great news for both City and United.

It places more pressure on United and Fergie and forces City to up its game. It promises to be a truly cracking season. I absolutely cannot wait.

If United win the league after this signing then it cements Fergie's reputation as the greatest manager of all time allowing him to retire on the top of the tree. I am sure he has nightmares of things fizzlingly out like they did for Brian Clough.

If City retain the league however then Fergie's gamble has failed and restricted by finance, an aging squad and a mediocer crop of youngsters I think he will be forced to conceed that his chance to overallhaul City has now gone and he'll retire. Not in his lifetime indeed.

As for Fergie's replacement...? Well i don't see David Moyes being able to compete with Manchini whilst trying to rebuild United.

Either way this is United's last thow of the dice before City enter a period of domination.

Season 2012/2013 bring it on.
