When they have proper cycle lanes (ie the ones similar to the ones on Alan Turing Way) I will let my 10 year old ride on the roads, until then he rides on the pavement. He knows he is not to ride carefully and give way to pedestrians and has done the Bikeability test at school getting top marks.
I think Ashton new Road where the Metrolink is being built is an absolute disgrace, no thought at all for cyclists on here. I fell when my wheel became trapped in the line and it was the quick-thinking 216 bus which saved me by stopping and offering to take me to hospital which I declined after recovering from the shock and walked the rest of the way to the Etihad where I was patched up. Where are we supposed to cycle when the tram is here?
Not all cyclists flout the rules as one of the posters has declared, most of us stick to the rules, its the drivers which are impatient who don't look and cause serious accidents.
I agrre with Bradley Wiggins that helmets should be made compulsory and the wearing of bright, florescent clothing too as well as lights on bikes be made a requirement.
