I have not used it much because I too do not live conveniently close nor are the places I wish to visit close. I'd like to see a 'circle line' going round and round joining Bolton with Bury and on around the outskirts of the city so you don't have to go into Manchester centre just to come out again...and lets go to Wigan and Leigh, Warrington and all points between.
