What an ill-informed comment. Donations to cancer research go towards, er let me think, cancer research - if you were diagnosed with cancer tomorrow your chances of survival would be considerably greater than they would have been 20, even 10, years ago. There are 1000s of types of cancer and the cancer research charities have allowed people to live with not die from the disease as well as providing total remission for some patients. As for the nasty drug companies; they have a 16 year window from start of research to losing the patent, in which to claw back the millions they have spent in R&D - that goes for simple antibiotics right up to chemotherapy and palliative care drugs. Finally, back to the headline; why are life-enhancing drugs denied to patients suffering from cancer, MS, arthritis etc. when we allow women (and men), single or married, several cycles of IVF treatment on the NHS? But that's a whole different discussion.......
