Expenditure on the NHS doubled under Labour. Did it become twice as good? What in fact happened was that all the special interests continued to claim that their particular niche was 'underfunded' -- an elastic phrase which can mean anything you care to make of it. Why should this relatively minor reduction in spending derail the whole service, as these alarmists predict? The fact of the matter is there will never be 'enough' money spent on the NHS and vested interests -- particulalry the top earners in the NHS -- will always try to protect their position by claiming the health of the nation is threatened.
