I think a lot of people are missing the point that Roy Hodgson has had very little time to prepare for this tournament. He has started with the basis of a solid defence and wingers who do track back in support making us difficult to beat. Parker is the workhorse in midfield and we are relying on the experience of Gerrard to move us forward. The midfield link is not yet working leaving Welbeck and Carrol isolated for long periods of time. Rooney's return should partly help to rectify that now he has had actual playing time. This was always a team in transition which is why nobody expects too much from them. Injuries have robbed us of young players like Wilshere, Smalling and Walker who would all have made the squad. We do have some good youngsters coming through so the priority for Hodgson would appear to be the World Cup in two years. To make the quarter finals is a good result and anything beyond a massive boost. One thing that is evident is that at last we have an England team that play for each other and not personal glory. Long may it continue.
