A few years ago the local news ran a story about how Commandos were drafted in to teach our students self defence.
It was appalling. Not just because they were teaching stupid wristlocks ("I have a knife, give me you money." - "No! I know a wrist lock!!!").
But also because of the false confidence it inspired, with one young lady proudly proclaiming "Now I have these skills I CAN take that short cut down that dark alley at night."
Surely teaching them to avoid dark alleys is infinitely better. It would be like a Life Saver Swimming Course telling you to jump in where it's dangerous.....
