Don't get me wrong, I think the MetroLink is excellent (when it works). It's quick, reasonably priced (compared to London), clean and efficient.
However, it does seem like an expensive toy. The trams themselves cost a fortune and each new line needs to build raised platforms. The trams are heavy which means that the tram tracks need replacing/updating and when one tram fails, the entire system stops.
I think a guided bus way would have been better, cheaper to install, run/maintain etc...
