To be fair to Horrocks, it was he who made the prediction which made it possible for Crabtree to make his observation. Horrocks did make his own observation from Much Hoole near Preston and it is clear he was the 'senior partner' (not Crabtree). Horrocks was a prodigy, dying before he was 23 years old, but still managed to im prove calculations of the distance to the sun, amongst many other things - he clearly would have been an equal of Newton, at least. A win/win for the northwest all round though. Roll on 2117!
