Why is abstinence not presented as an option in the curriculum?

Because it doesn''t work, all those "Silver Ring Thing" schemes and what have you just don't work, and then when the kids fail to stick to abstinance they've had little or no education about contraception and end up with higher than average STD and pregnancy rates.
