I agree - geographically the 'alternative' version is probably correct but the original 'official' version is much more easier on the eye and legible - which is one of it's primary purposes.

Users of this map want to know how to get to Eccles, Altrincham and Bury - not necessarily where their locations are relation to Mcr City Centre.

Is the London Underground map geographically correct? Do all the LU routes run parallel and at 45˙ to eachother? Doubt it.
