As a car driver and cyclist I often think that a mandatory year cycling on busy roads before you're allowed to apply for a car license would be a good idea, it'd give some drivers a real feel for what it's like to be a cyclist and therefore how best to behave round them. For example there's no need to accelerate round me just so you can turn left into a side road, perhaps you could wait for three seconds?

I also get frustrated by other cyclists who put themselves and others in danger by jumping lights and riding on pavements, these cyclists give ammunition to some of the simple folk that dwell on these pages. I can also appreciate why they might want to do it though. Cars and bikes do not mix well, especially if you are not a confident cyclist or the driver is a nutter.

I've got myself a camera on my helmet so if something like this were to happen then you can expect GMP will have some pretty good evidence. I'd recommend these to other cyclists, I got mine for about £35 on Amazon and the more bikers have them and the more careless car drivers know about it the more respectful everyone will become.
