Words about the day fail me too. I will make mention though that over the years the promotion made some good and novel (for speedway) inroads in promoting the sport including with youngsters. Unfortunately the fatal flaw in the plan was that they were attracting them to a dump of a 'stadium' and a track not conducive to Speedway racing.
People go to it the first time and think is this what Speedway is it's awful. Not only will they never return again but if asked about it by friends or work colleagues they'll hurriedly tell them not to go.
Best way out of this now for the club is to keep the Belle Vue Aces a hidden (embarrassing) secret for this year and make a fresh assault on publicity before next season, providing we are in a new stadium.
My heart does go out to the management as they have put enormous amounts of work, time and money into the club. Let's not forget without them there would have been no Speedway in Manchester. We have had the odd meeting or more where we witnessed some good racing as opposed to first, second, third and fourth out of the gate finish in that order, well so long as they can mange to stay on the bike for four laps, not easy on that track.
