I'm just an idealistic American who was raised to think we're all equal, but, like it or not, sensible or not, we're not! This was a lovely gesture, PR value or not. The Queen has conducted herself with great dignity and intelligence throughout her long life. I feel a deep and sincere happiness for the young couple. They have been shown that there is also a bit of senseless good in the world, and that power does not always corrupt. Some British chap once said something about the quality of mercy not being strained... maybe we saw a bit of it here?
