I think that what needs to be taken on board is that langauge evolves as well as , attitudes, beliefs and values. The choice of whatever faith groups not to evolve is entirely a matter for them and their right to speak out, boycott or opt out is not affected either and they have their status quo and the meaning to them can be understood within the context of their belief system, cannon law or teachings.

Indeed, many catholic countries such as nominally Spain within Europe have always legislated to recognised gay marriage as part of their changes from a fascist dictatorship into a democratic, liberal democracy.

In my view no one loses but everyone gains, as many catholics are gay people too that actively practice their faith as mass attenders and the catholic church may well be continuing to persecute its own flock. I have known many catholic priests and anglican priests that either celebate or have a relationship with a same sex partner and it is quite wrong for both churches to campaign against gay marriage and preach that only one way of life within the a christian faith is the sole way of life.
