What you misleadingly leave out is the fact that the current system of an authority sees not only political figures involved but members of the public too. This new commissioner role only allows for one person to occupy the role, so if a political figure wins then it removes the public element of that position.

Of course a non-political figure may win, but I'm still not keen on this expensive, damaging change to policing management.
