lana Timmons comments seem highly political for one who disavows politics. I will leave it to the readers to conclude why FHAG did not leaflet any of the three big social housing estates in Hollinwood nor contact and invite any of the active tenants and residents groups within these areas!
HMR is highly controversial but some residents within the area have drawn attention to run down private landlord housing at the last Failsworth and Hollinwood Area Committee where they would wish to see an HMR intervention made and where they would feel intervention would be positive! HMR does not merely mean wholesale clearance.
Not even in the USA can markets alone and private investors address poverty and social discrimination, without local, federal governemnt intervention. And much that blights Oldhams poorer areas dates back to the Thatcher years.
There are many local activists in our area working very hard within partenrships towards devloping Failsorth and Hollinwood to meet the opportunities of the future. FHAG seems to be orientated merely to criticise rather than to build.
