What amazing posibilities on the internet! I put in a search for Middleton to have a browse down memory lane and found you - good ol' Middleton Guardian.
Wow - congratulations to the paper for continuing for so long in this cut-throat world and 'Thank You' too for starting this Middleton Exiles page.
I left Middleton December 1975 after growing up on Langley Estate and attending Langley Secondary Modern. After working at Middleton Public Library and working on GCE's at night school at Durnford Street I attended Teacher Training College
(Mather College Manchester). I then taught in various places around Lancashire before deciding to try out teaching overseas. Well - I've been overseas ever since!
Last time I had a couple of days in Middleton I was on my way up to visit York about 8 years ago. I had to navigate my way from the airport - I didn't know where I was. The whole of north Manchester seemed to have been demolished Moston, Blackley - then a great big hole for a motorway. I was devastated. The only thing remaining to guide my journey were the classic Accrington brick pubs lining the Oldham Road and Rochdale Road. Thank goodness for my misspent student days!
I'm driving through Middleton on 30th October this year. It will be interesting to spot the changes.
Before I finish - I'd like to say hello to any readers who remember Ingrid and Christa Harrison of Mosedale Road, Langley. It would be great to hear from you via this column.
AND - Hiya! to Mike, Lynn, Carol, Carol, Sandra, Joanne, Abby, Frances, Herta, Herta and Mrs. Parnell. Best wishes from Ingrid
