Hi, my name is Thelma Hughes (nee Nixon). I was born in Rossendale general hospital in 1942. I attended Tunstead Primary School, Stacksteads, and then on to Lea Bank Secondary School, Waterfoot. My family then moved to Accrington in 1954, and I attended Hyndburn Park Secondary School, leaving in 1957. I began nursing at the then Brockhall mental hospital, Langho, Blackburn in 1957 until emigrating to Australia in 1964, where I continued my nursing at Childrens Cottages Kew, Melbourne, Victoria, and Mont Park Psychiatric Hospital. I am now living in Kilsyth, Melbourne. My father Andrew Nixon (deceased) was a shoe repairer and surgical boot maker at Brockhall, and he made me a pair of miniature clogs similar to the ones I wore as a child (Mike was asking about clogs). My mother Irene Nixon (nee Coldwell) (deceased) moved to Malta (I am not sure which year). If there is anyone who knows where in Malta she lived, or wants contact with me my email address is thelmahughes@optusnet.com.au.
