Don't agree Ralph. You do sound like the Dutch commentators on the match highlights who actually thought it was a disgrace to the job of manager .... I think the desicion was right and SP had thought about it before the match. Nothing to do with unexperienced (how often are we gonna hear that one), just guts and it nearly worked. Why not just put the goalkeeper upfront and play without a goallie? Well, the save Weaver made proved why, and because of that we still finished 8th. Why put a goalkeeper upfront? Indeed, to cause panic, to unsettle defence. Nothing more, not because of his footballing qualities, not to leave Macken on the bench to send out a message that he is not good enough. Why not inform James or the players before the game? He wanted the players and James in particular to keep their heads with their jobs for as long as possible. I think it's a one-time move from SP, one that I will remember for a long time and one that underlines my expectations City will have a bright future under SP (at least not a boring one, that for sure!).
