Old boy returns for victory in 10k

RACE winner: Ben Riddell receiving his prize from club president Terry Nortley.

Radcliffe Athletic Club chalked up a successful new 10k race on Sunday when 230 runners took part.

Winner was former Radcliffe member Ben Riddell, now running for Salford Harriers, in a superb time of 33.23.

And Tess Walker made it a double for Salford as the first woman in 38.01.

Riddell was nearly a minute clear of his nearest rival Alastair Murray from Horwich but second woman Dionne Allen from Horwich was only nine seconds behind Walker.

Horwich won the men’s team prize, with four runners in the top 10.

The tough new multi-terrain course started in Sion Street, ran on to the local nature trail, Ringley Road, the local canal and then finished on the Nellie Halstead Track in Cam's Lane and competitors had perfect conditions.

Registration and the prize presentation were held at Radcliffe Cricket Club.

Radcliffe AC can be pleased with their successes including the 10-mile trail race earlier in the year and are hoping the new three-day event, planned for July, will prove just as popular.

It will feature an evening 5.5m fell race on 8 July, a cross-country event the next evening and then a multi-terrain five-mile the following day.
