Sedgley Park.................. 44

Otley............................... 18

THE Tigers ran out convincing winners in this hastily rearranged National One league game - played on Tuesday night after being called off on Saturday.

Both teams are struggling near the bottom of the table but it was the Tigers who started in more determined fashion.

And they opened their account with a Steve Nutt penalty on three minutes.

The lead was stretched after 10 minutes when Matt Riley, pictured, went over for a try following a scrum close to the line and Nutt converted.

Nutt added another penalty before the second try of the game came when Matt Riley hunted down the ball by beating an Otley player to a free ball and hacked on.

The ball stuck on the sticky surface but the sharp-witted Richard Wainwright also kicked on before scooping up to go over for another simple score.

And Nutt converted to give Sedgley a 20-0 lead.

But a penalty from Ben Hough and an unconverted try by Christian Georgiou, who ran in a long range effort, reduced Sedgley’s half time advantage to 20-8

Hough cut the deficit even further with a penalty at the start of the second half but then Sedgley cut loose with two opportunist tries.

The first came from Mike Roberts on 55 minutes, who was not going to be denied despite the presence of three tacklers.

And then just two minutes later livewire Chris Hall picked up a free ball and scampered clear of the Otley defence to cross the line and touchdown and Nutt's conversion made the score 32-11.

Sedgley’s points haul was concluded by a brace of tries from young wingman Tom Blackwell.

And a final consolation try went to Otley’s Ben Hough on the last play.

On Saturday, Sedgley have another rearranged fixture at Park Lane with Cornish outfit Redruth Reds the visitors.

Kick-off is 2.30pm in another must win fixture for the Tigers.
