A LIAM Murray wonder strike could not stop Prestwich Heys from crashing out of the Gilgryst Cup on Saturday.

He netted an amazing equalising Beckham-esque goal from just past the halfway line in the quarter-final clash at home to Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Football League Premier Division rivals Hollinwood.

But Yates’ 60th minute goal gave Hollin-wood a 3-2 success and consigned Heys, who once again were too accommodating in defence, to their third successive defeat.

Liam Murray was the other goal scorer for Prestwich, who beat Hollinwood 2-1 in the league earlier in the season and were bolstered by new signings Adam O’Shaughnessy (centre back) and Adam Edwards (striker) from Standians and Bury Amateurs respectively.

Prestwich, whose aims are to stabilise the club by finishing in the top 10 this year before signing new players and progressing in the following campaign according to manager Liam Morrisey, also fielded striker Brandon Jolly. He returned from an injury lay-off as a second half substitute.
