So this is how it feels to be city...

It was good to see the Durham players (and fans) get a standing ovation both inside and outside the ground. Yes, they were very fortunate but they battled hard (and fairly) and made their own luck I guess.

FC were poor. If we'd have scored with any one of those chances near the end it would have been a shame to deny Durham those emotional celebrations.

Time to pull your socks up lads. We've been here before and I expect to see the same response as in the past.

Agreed Prestwich Red....worst i've seen us play so far in 5 years but no point in bleating about it. Fair play to Durham, you have to hand it to them as it must have been hard to keep going after 28 consecutive losses. The team selection should be interesting on Tuesday....onwards and upwards..Forza FC!

Well played Durham. They fought for every ball, chased down lose ones, harried our players and more than that they were the better team on the day. The 45 yard goal alone was fit to win any game. If this had been a Premiership game it would have been on news at 10.00 and on the back page of every newspaper in the country. I'm sure FCUM.TV caught it on film so it might be on the FC United website later.

All we need are the millions that Fergie has to spend, and his genius for shouting at players at half-time so they play better, and the real Utd will soon be in the First Division: or maybe it is the money and not the shouting that attracted the world-class players to Old Trafford. I always thought it was that Glaswegian welder who was the genius.

Next up, Matlock Town v. FC United, Tuesday 16th March 2009, Kick off 7:45pm. This game is to be played at Causeway Lane, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AR. This game is pay on the gate. Admission prices are as follows: £7 Adults £4.50 Concessions £9 Adult and Child. Note major construction work is being undertaken at Causeway Lane, which has seen the demolition of the old changing rooms, seated stand, offices, boardroom and social club. Access will be as normal through the main gate. The new tea bar opened last year is fully operational. Car Parking: There will be no spaces available for supporter’s cars within any area of the ground. The main public car parks are located just off Crown Square above Somerfields Store, opposite the swimming baths (both accessed off Imperial Road) and behind the Town Hall, off Bank Road. For evening games cars are allowed to park facing the Town Centre along Causeway Lane from 7.00pm onwards.

Travel By Car: From Manchester City Centre follow the A6 direct through to Matlock. Then onto the A615 Matlock Green. The ground is 500 yards from the Town Centre

Thanks for the hospitality shown to us by FCUM on Saturday at Gigg Lane but perhaps even more importantly can I ask, on behalf of Durham City FC, if you could somehow pass on our appreciation for the standing ovation that FCUM supporters gave the Durham City team after our unexpected victory.

Despite enduring what must have been a frustrating and ultimately disappointing afternoon for them, to then stand and applaud the young city side as they left the field, which in the circumstances took some time, was a wonderful gesture especially when many other supporters may have barracked their own side in similar situations.

All you need is money. Come on some Arab: give us 100 million pounds to buy Europe's best. That is all Ferguson needs; then he sits on the bench and chews gum; if Utd look like losing, he yells at the millionaires, so they play better in the second half.

Margy gives youth a chance. After three defeats in a row Margy and Roy Soule have told the players what is expected of them leading up to the Unibond Premier League home game against Hucknall Town this Saturday. Following the 3-0 away defeat at Buxton, FC were beaten by bottom club Durham City 2-1 to gain their first points of the season. Margy was unhappy with the way some players approached the game. "A lot of the players seemed to turn up and expect to beat the bottom team without needing to try and that is not on. We were completely outfought by a team that wanted to win a lot more than we did. I'm not prepared to put up with that at FC United. "The players should be going into every game wanting to win more than the opposition and the kind of performance we put in on Saturday should never happen again. We pick the team and give advice, but beyond that once the players step out on to the pitch its up to them to put the effort in and to deliver. They didn't do that and as a result they let you, the supporters, down big time. Our fans were exceptional again, both getting behind us and applauding Durham's achievement and you deserve better than that terrible show we put on. Myself and Roy believe we have dealt with the issues and are pleased with how the players have conducted themselves since. "Despite the 4-3 defeat at Matlock in midweek, we were pleased with the way the players reacted to last Saturday's Durham debacle. To score three away from home is no mean feat, but we made four calamitous individual errors that cost us the game.
