Stand's dual defeat

Stand CC had a disappointing weekend with both senior sides losing in the league and cup – all against Cheetham Hill.

The first XI’s task was made all the more difficult by having to play on a tough batting wicket at Cheetham Hill both days.

On Saturday, again with a number of players missing, they won the toss, fielded first and reduced their hosts to 80-8.

However, they added 43 for the last two wickets to finish on 123 all out, Scott Butterworth with 5-48 and Carl Sutcliffe 5-68.

In reply, both Stand openers exited without scoring as they collapsed to 54-5.

Having recovered to 99-7, they lost the last three wickets for a further 21 runs to fall five runs short.

The seconds were all out for 127, Chris Bullock top-scoring with 38, before the visitors reached their target with four wickets in hand despite Nick Marlor’s 3-32.

Sunday was Walkden Cup day, and despite having a number of senior players back, Stand found themselves 54-6 before reaching 138 all out.

Despite making an early breakthrough in reply, Stand saw their opponents reach 87-1 before quick wickets from Catterall and Butterworth left them on 104-6.

An appeal against Rather was rejected before Mirza’s undefeated 32 saw Cheetham Hill home by four wickets.

The seconds were in Hulme Trophy action and, batting first, made 160.

Again this wasn’t enough as the visitors reached their target with three overs left, despite tight bowling from Dave Foreman and Chris Marlor, conceding 13 from 10 overs and five from five overs respectively.
