Easy win for Clifton

Clifton’s Central Lancashire League home Saturday’s home tie with Milnrow on Saturday saw a comfortable win for the hosts.

Clifton batted first with Andrew Griffiths and Adam Holt adding 83 for the first wicket.

Once Holt (19) was dismissed, Hendro Puchert joined in the fun before Griffiths (107) was out with 169 on the board.

Puchert reached his 50 with 11 overs remaining as Milnrow’s fielding steadily deteriorated.

Darren King added 57 before the innings closed with Clifton on 304-3, Puchert undefeated on 98.

Once the Milnrow opening pair were removed, Clifton soon got to grips taking wickets regularly.

Pick of the bowlers was Mubeem Ahktar, who tore through the innings with 6-27 as Milnrow were all out for 172.

The second team had an easy victory in the reverse fixture.

Chris Lord (44), Ian Morris (56) and James Evans (58 not out) helped them to 237-7 before Milnrow crumbled to 116 all out in reply.

The 3rd Team’s visit to Rochdale cricket club on Monday went right to the wire but unfortunately the points went to Rochdale.

Clifton batted first and amassed a creditable total of 178-9, the pick of the batsmen being Phil Royle (42) and Rob Reade (45 not out).

Wickets were hard to come by early on, but although Gareth Lloyd’s second spell brought several wickets, Rochdale completed the victory with one over remaining and three wickets in hand.

Friday’s Twenty20 tie against Radcliffe ended up with a disappointing loss.

Radcliffe batted first and scored 163 and Clifton were never really in the race.

It was only the late order batting of Greg Jennings and Danny Hill that pushed their score over the 100 mark in reply.
