Gareth Cross believes he has proved that he deserves to be Lancashire’s No.1 wicketkeeper.

Since making his first-class debut for the county in 2005, the Bury-born wicketkeeper had to bide his time in the seconds while Luke Sutton kept him out of the side.

Catterall inspires nail-biting double win for Stand

A fantastic weekend on the field for Stand with both the first and second teams winning Saturday and Sunday.

The first team were involved in two penultimate ball nail-bitters, inspired by the in-form Stuart Catterall while Rick Watson and Tim Clements, with bat and ball respectively, took the plaudits for the seconds.

A successful weekend for Stand’s first team yielded victories over Thornham and Denton.

On Saturday they had a comfortable seven-wicket win over Thornham.

Last Saturday, Stand entertained Woodbank at the SCG – finally getting started at 2.30pm after overnight rain had soaked the ground.

Stand won the toss but made a poor start as Woodbank paid man Steve Dearden and spinner Nick Kennedy reduced the hosts to 11-3.

Saturday saw one of the most entertaining games for quite some time when Stand’s first XI hosted Dukinfield.

Stand won the toss and elected to bat first in the warm conditions.

Double success for Prestwich puts them in hunt for the title

A weekend double whammy has put Prestwich firmly in the league title hunt. Steven Lorenzini played a captain’s innings to overcome a tricky away venture, winning by three wickets at Flowery Field, followed by a hard-fought six-wicket victory over fellow high-flyers Glossop.

The Heys side had to dig themselves out of a big hole on more than one occasion on Saturday as Flowery blossomed, and then wilted, for 146.

Stand CC had a disappointing weekend with both senior sides losing in the league and cup – all against Cheetham Hill.

The first XI’s task was made all the more difficult by having to play on a tough batting wicket at Cheetham Hill both days.

Easy win for Clifton

Clifton’s Central Lancashire League home Saturday’s home tie with Milnrow on Saturday saw a comfortable win for the hosts.

Clifton batted first with Andrew Griffiths and Adam Holt adding 83 for the first wicket.

A good crowd was in attendance for Clifton’s Lake Garage Central Lancashire League home tie to Norden on Sunday but unfortunately it was Norden who went away with all the points.

Clifton batted first but lost wickets on a regular basis as no batsman really troubled the scorers.

Stand CC lost out to top of the table Glossop at the SCG on Saturday in the Lancashire County League.

After inclement weather during the week, the ground staff had done a fantastic job to ensure that play was possible. Glossop skipper Adam Wilson won the toss and surprisingly decided to field first and allow Stand first use of the greenish, yet run-filled track.

It was a hit and mishit start to Stand’s innings when they took on Bury at Woodbank.

Remarkably after Friday's heavy rain, the match started on time with Stand winning the toss and deciding to bat first.

A day for swinging and hoping

On arrival at Cheetham Hill Stand were greeted by a green, uncovered strip with a wet square and outfield which was unfit for play.

However, the weather took a turn for the better and after a token effort to mop up from the players that arrived on time, coupled with a couple of hours of sunshine, a 20-over a side match began at 4.30pm.

Revenge served up by the visitors

Stand CC entertained local rivals Prestwich at the SCG, with the visitors looking for revenge after their opening day defeat at Hey's Road.

Having lost the toss. Stand were asked to bat first and as in recent weeks struggled early on to build sizeable partnerships with Prestwich’s opening bowler Phil Kyle winning the early exchanges.

Stand's top five hopes were dealt a blow when they lost at home to Irlam by five wickets.
