Ballet success has little dancers leaping for joy

STEPPING UP: Danielle-Jo Ashton, Nancy Weddell, Beth Saunders, Riana Zogijani, Mia Lynch, Catherine Senior, Olivia Pickstock and Farrah Abbassy are celebrating passing their Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams at the Linda Janette School of Dancing in Prestwich.

Pupils at a dance school pirouetted their way to 100 per cent success.

Budding ballet stars from the Linda Janette School of Dancing, in Prestwich, all passed their Royal Academy of Dance examinations.

The 42 dancers had to do exercises on the bars, in the centre of the dance floor and ‘character dancing’, where they learned steps from other countries.

The pupils, aged between six and 15, took exams ranging from primary to grade six levels of difficulty.

Principal Linda Janette, who founded the school more than 20 years ago, said the school – which is run from Prestwich Methodist Church – was ‘like a family’.

She said: "All the children have made me very proud. When it comes to exams, they come to school, work hard, make friends, and really try their best."

Mum-of-three Linda, whose daughter Larissa, now 14, has danced at the school since the age of three, said children gain confidence from ballet tuition.

She said: "It gives them confidence and they do make all these friends. I think ballet is about discipline and the parents do like that.

"Some former pupils are returning with their young children now."
