Councillors have granted permission for a huge sports complex in Manchester's Heaton Park.
Hundreds of people had formally objected to the plans and 6,400 have joined a 'Save Heaton Park' group on Facebook, and objectors voiced their anger at when planning committee members gave the plans the go-ahead. Follow live coverage here ....
The proposals are for 13 floodlit football pitches, a caged football area and climbing wall, six tennis and netball courts and a pavilion with changing rooms.
Campaigners objected on the grounds of noise impact, traffic and loss of historic open space. Among the objectors was Bury South MP Ivan Lewis.

And "Mad Welsh Scotsman, Cadishead", you do not play footy on concrete, well not in England

You don't get changed in the open air though do you! The tennis or netball courts will not be grass nor will the pavillion be!

No. That's why we need a concerted effort to get them out of Westminster and out of The Albert Square Grand Soviet.

Tennis and Netball courts and the changing rooms and pavillion will need concreting or tarmac over though

Do you know that in the city centre only one development has successfully been rejected and that is now back on the table again albeit with much revised plans. That is at Jackson's Wharf, Castlefield.
On that was fiercely rejected was in the Village at the corner of Whitworth and Princess Street. On a summer's day people will stand outside the bars at that bit of Canal Street and the apartments around there had good views. However, a huge hotel and apartments are going to be built on the sapce that was a car park.
It will block out all sunlight, encroach on the surrounding buildings and completely block views and destroy privacy.
About 700 peopel object to this for various reasons. This was a mix of business, residents and others that use the area. But it still got the go-ahead. This is at one on the busiest roads in town and they want to put more residents and hotel there. And they have narrowed the roads there thus creating more congestion so why add to it even more?! Nobody wanted it apart from the developers but still it gets the go ahead.
What usually happens with these developments is they plan for say a 14 storey block, people object so they make it 11 storeys and it gets through planning.
The council are there to serve the people not be their master.
