A YOUNG girl who suffers from a rare condition which makes her ill when surprised has helped to raise more than £2,000 for research into the disease.

Jenny Lloyd is one of only six known sufferers of a form of polyglandular Addison’s disease.

The condition means than when the 11-year-old is surprised or anxious her body doesn’t produce the adrenaline it needs to calm her down and she turns grey and starts to vomit.

Despite this Jenny, who takes 10 tablets a day, and her family have set up a charity Jenny’s Pennies, which raises cash for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s endocrine unit which treats and researches conditions like polyglandular Addison’s.

In the last six months they have raised £2,600 - with £1,000 coming from an arts and crafts stall Jenny ran at St Mary’s Church in Prestwich on Mother’s Day.

Mum Amanda, 45, of Glebelands Road, Prestwich, said they are thrilled with how much they have raised but are desperate to raise more cash.

She added: "We’ve got a couple of people running in the Great Manchester Run for us but if anyone else running wants to do it, or any other run, on our behalf that would be great. I’ve got some T-shirts made and we would really appreciate it.

"I also wish we could get some sponsorship from companies or someone to make the T-shirts for us."

More cash will soon be coming into the campaign with a spring fair to be held at Prestwich Conservative Club, in Church Lane on Saturday, June 7 at 11am.

They have also been chosen as security firm G4S’ charity of the year and are charity of the month in November for Blenheim Finance.

Although the campaign is making headway, unfortunately Jenny has suffered a few setbacks as she tries to cope with her Year 6 exams at St Mary’s Primary School.

Amanda said: "We’ve had a few blips. I beeped at a friend in a car park the other day and she was in bits about it.

"She’s got her exams coming up and she’s been given extra time to do them but she’s going to have medication just to get through them. I had to give her medication the other day because she couldn’t understand the maths."

Amanda is also appealing for anyone who can help Jenny fulfil her dream of meeting pop star and actress Hannah Montana to come forward.

She added: "My biggest dream for this child is that she can meet Hannah. Jenny is so giving and if I won the Lottery I would send her to meet Hannah."
