THE new Oldham and District Table Tennis League season started last week with 254 players representing 56 teams across the four divisions.
Division one champions Glodwick got their season off to a successful start with a 9-1 defeat of Rosehill A.
Newly-formed Saddleworth A overcame Grotton A 6-4, there was a draw in the game between Hollinwood’s A and B teams, OTTC A saw off BAE B 8-2, while BAE’s A squad prevailed 7-3 in their encounter at Honeywell A.
Grotton B had a difficult start to life in division two as they were on the wrong end of a whitewash against Honeywell Lane B.
Elsewhere, there were 7-3 successes for Hollinwood C, Werneth D and Coldhurst A against Hollinwood D, Hyde YMCA B and Pennine respectively.
Failsworth A saw off Unison A 9-1, Werneth C were 8-2 victors over Honeywell C, while there was a draw in the match between Uppermill and Hollinwood E.
Division three newcomers Droylsden came away from Failsworth C with a 7-3 success, the margin of victory enjoyed by Unison C against Failsworth B and Coldhurst C against Gilders.
The other game taking place ended with a 6-4 victory for Coldhurst B against promoted Deaf Club A.
In division four, league debutants St Saviour’s opened their campaign by inflicting a defeat on Werneth F.
Another new team, Our Lady’s, recorded a draw against Werneth G, while the all-girl line-up fielded by OTTC C went down to a narrow 6-4 defeat against Honeywell E.
OTTC D’s junior boys team displayed good promise before eventually going down 9-1 against the more experienced Unison D outfit.
PLAYERS should note that the division two and three matches at Failsworth School start at 8pm, while division four games at Our Lady’s can start from 7pm onwards.
