FAILSWORTH’S Katie Jane Stanley will be among the competitors as the best young golfing talent from across the world heads to Scotland next month.
The 10-year-old, winner of last year’s MENWN ‘Tiger Hunt’ talent search, will be among over 400 golfers looking to become the US Kids Golf European Champion.
Katie Jane is one of more than a dozen youngsters representing the Lancashire Golf Union with the ultimate prize a place in the US Kids Golf World Champinships at Pinehurst Golf Club, North Carolina, in August.
Next month’s competition sees boys and girls split into different gender and age groups with the top finishers in each category then competing in the Van Horn Cup, an event modelled on the Ryder Cup where the best European players face the best non-European counterparts.
The top five finishers in each age and gender group automatically receive an invitation to the US Kids Golf World Championships in August.
Katie Jane and her rivals will be in action from May 26-28 at five courses in East Lothian before the Van Horn Cup takes place on May 29.
Tournament director John Godwin said: "Anyone who has not watched the elite of today’s junior golfers in action is in for a treat. If we get good conditions, I’m confident we will see a host of superb sub-par rounds."
