SADDLEWORTH Golf Club lady captain Hazel Rogerson was a surprised and delighted winner of one of her section’s ‘major’ trophies.

Having already enjoyed success by becoming the first player in 10 years to record an ace during the OLGA competition day, she has now added the Committee Cup to her growing collection.

The trophy is awarded to the winner of the ladies singles matchplay knockout competition. After battling through several rounds to reach the final, Hazel kept up her momentum to win against Janice Nicholson.

Also collecting silverware at Saddleworth were Ivan Hibbert and Barry Lees as they took the postponed Schofield Shield after winning a card play-off on 73 points from Steve Baron and Cliff Bird.

Turkeys were on the menu for Oldham’s men during a pairs competition and stocking up their festive larder with a fine haul of 47 points were Lee Blainey and Frank Lawrence.

Team action at Oldham saw Blainey and Lawrence team up with Graham Pendleton and Jack Roberts for a winning score of 94 points.

Medal action at Werneth saw Ian Turner victorious in division one after a cpo on 66 from John Stockley and Dave Burton, while division two had Les Jones out on his own with 66.

Autumn Winter League action at Crompton and Royton saw a four-man team medal taken by Norman Firth, Keith Masters, Eric Frier and Brian Howarth with 136.

A betterball Stableford at Brookdale was taken by the 47-point haul of Paul Dunkerley and Duncan Baird.

Davenport’s new assistant professional Graham Cox continued his fine form with a second straight win as the Manchester Alliance visited Shrigley Hall for a four-man team event.

His individual score of 36 points helped Cox to finish a point clear of the field.

The top team came from the amateur ranks, led by Alliance regulars Julian Robinson and Alan Lane, along with fellow Blackley members Duncan Teal and Andrew O’Neill with a score of 89 points.
