IT WAS honours even in the local derby between Diggle and Uppermill in the First Division of the Huddersfield League.
Home side Diggle tore into their neighbours from the first minute of the game, and should have been out of sight by half time.
However, all that Diggle could show for their dominance was a single goal from striker Lee Clarke.
The second period was competitive, but sterile as neither side looked capable of scoring a goal.
Uppermill were the better side after the break, looking much more assured and composed when in possession.
Diggle’s effort could not be faulted, but their lack of any obvious quality when in possession of the ball proved their downfall.
Uppermill’s equaliser came on 75 minutes when striker Scott Thistlton lobbed the Diggle keeper from 35 yards, after the keeper had been caught stranded following a free kick.
Diggle will be kicking themselves that this was not a win for them, but Uppermill deserve credit for their second half display and careful use ofthe ball.
SANTOS secured a well-deserved 5-1 win against VC United on Sunday. Santos went into the break 2-1 up through goals from Danny Hicks and Russell Clarke. Further goals from a Russell Clarke (penalty), John Mayall and Adam McKinney completed a 5-1 victory.
