Oldham Athletic’s new stadium could be part of 2018 World Cup.
The England 2018 World Cup bid team has been reviewing Candidate Host City bid submissions and believe there is an opportunity to strengthen the Manchester offer and enhance the overall England 2018 technical bid by including Latics’ proposed new stadium as a venue ideal as a specific training site.
Old Trafford and The City of Manchester Stadium are the two grounds earmarked to stage games if the England bid is successful, but teams will require training sites in the area and the new Latics stadium could fit the bill.
Latics chief executive Alan Hardy said: "We have been invited to a meeting with Sir Howard Bernstein, the Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, who is leading the Manchester bid team, to discuss the feasibility of the new stadium being included in the England 2018 Bid Book and we are absolutely delighted.
"It is thought that our inclusion would help to enhance the England 2018 bid and it would be a major boost for the club and the whole Oldham Borough to be involved in the World’s biggest sporting event."
FIFA decide in December this year which country will win the honour of hosting the 2018 tournament

They let the rugby club down and no doubt will do the same for Latics. It was a different story when the Latics were promoted to the Premiership. Every M.P. councillor or civil dignatory then was "an Oldham Athletic supporter" but now no-one wants to know anything about the club. That's how true OLDHAM FANS believe.

what? Hardy reckons a couple of training sessions by some third rate national team is going to capture the imagination of the oldham folk - they're harder to please than that.
