OLDHAM and Werneth were both successful as the 2009 Lake Garage CLL season got under way on Sunday.

Oldham were comfortable seven-wicket winners against Radcliffe at the Pollards, where the visitors were dismissed for 118 with JP Lee taking 8-49.

Victory was duly secured for the home side with only three wickets down in reply.

Werneth were just as emphatic, posting a 116-run success against Milnrow as Pierre Joubert struck 125 to help them total 257-7 batting first.

He was then one of a trio of Werneth bowlers to end with three wickets apiece as Milnrow were all out for 141.

The news was not so good elsewhere as Crompton and Royton both suffered opening day defeats.

Crompton were dismissed for 120 chasing Heywood’s 206-7, while Royton were all out for 165 in reply to Walsden’s 184, during which John Punchard took 8-54.
